Dear Death Note team,

The moment the new opening song for Death Note ended, I wanted to laugh and retch at the same time. To those who think this song is actually great, I don't know what you heard that made this song great. Perhaps I don't enjoy hearing cuss words which constitute staple lyrics.

The video itself is not vomit quality, although some images probably strung my neurons to generate an epilepsy. Yeah, it was cute watching L on a swivel chair munching on sweets; L doing capoeira; the L task force posing for glamor magazines; L and Raito hanging around; solo Raito; Raito walking around gracefully in a place where the colors are Death Note awesome; even Ryuuk doing the Holy Apple Dance is bloody hilarious...but multiple Raito faces laughing/grinning/screaming? What were you thinking, animators? We all know Raito has issues, but there was actually no need to get it redundant with the roaring vocals. Plus, it's practically the first set of images we see.

My dear animators, you do know that what makes Death Note animation magnificent is digital grading. Heck, it's one magical ingredient that makes your eyes glued to the screen. So why didn't you magically grade all of the images of the opening song? We'll be seeing them for like how many episodes?! The recycling is so blatant you practically drew arrows and wrote in R E C Y C L E D in red, glowing ink. It's the song opening, not an episode recap.

However, it's not about the multiple Raito faces nor the tacky recycling that nearly killed the decency of the video. It's the big red Raito eye. What's this, a bad version of Ring 0 or Aliens? My dear animators, if you want to do the red eye thing, do it like the previous opening. You know, the one where you got the color of the human sclera correctly? Sure, that black sclera worked for the first ending theme, but, come on, you people should know when it looks like a horror film rip already.

I'm fairly hopeful there is going to be a third opening song, wherein I will not get to see that bloody eye with red iris and black sclera and the song will have no repetitive cuss words. You know, death note can have a sad and slow opening song (with no repetitive cuss words). Sure, it all boils down to artistic license and I would not be surprised if the third opening has some surprisingly nasty images. If ever you're at that point when you people are reviewing what you have done, please be reminded that black sclera does not work all the time. And no, it doesn't immediately project the darkness Raito is in.

The episode animation is superb, surpassing all my expectations for a shonen manga adaptation. So why not extend that almost perfection to the opening and ending themes, huh?
